How to choose

A fire bowl is the most basic and often the best fire pit: a steel or cast iron bowl you fill with wood and light. Nothing to go wrong, easy to move, and many take a grill grate so they double as a cooker.

Corten steel bowls weather to a stable rust patina and last for years; cast iron holds heat longer but is heavy. Whatever the material, stand it clear of anything that can scorch and never sit it directly on a wooden deck.
