An independent site about cooking on charcoal, built on the principle that the fire is the recipe.
What this site is
King of the Coal covers cooking over charcoal: recipes, technique guides and equipment recommendations. Recipes are filed by cut, because the cut decides the fire, the time and almost everything else about how a piece of meat should be cooked.
What it is not
It is not a test kitchen. We do not have a lab, we do not run instrumented burn tests, and we do not claim to. Recommendations are built from manufacturer specifications, the published results of outlets that do run structured testing, long-running owner communities and a working understanding of what each format can physically do. Where a product has a known weakness it is written down, including on the products we recommend most. See how we recommend for the full policy.
On honesty
There are no star ratings on this site and no review counts, because we have not collected any. There are no fabricated testimonials. Prices are shown as indicative bands with the date they were checked, paired with a live link, because charcoal grill pricing moves constantly and a hard number would be out of date within a month.
