How to choose

Coconut shell charcoal is made from the shells left over from the coconut industry, so it is a genuine waste product rather than felled wood. It burns for a very long time, hotter and cleaner than you might expect, and leaves remarkably little ash.

It usually comes as compressed logs or cubes, which is ideal for shisha and for long low cooks, and it is close to odourless, so it will not add smoke flavour of its own. Pair it with wood chunks if you want smoke. It can be slower to light, so use a chimney.
