How to choose
Predictable size means predictable stacking, predictable burn rate and a temperature you can hold for ten hours. The snake and Minion methods both depend on it and neither works properly with lump.
Avoid instant-light or match-light briquettes, which are pre-soaked in lighter fluid and will taint your food. Several brands make briquettes with no petroleum binders at all.
