PK Grills PK300 Original Review
Cast aluminium instead of steel, so it will not rust, ever. The capsule shape and four vents, one at each corner, give finer airflow control than a two vent kettle.
- Cast aluminium will not rust
- Four vents, true independent zone control
- Rectangular grate wastes less space than a circle
- Genuinely lifetime hardware
- Smaller cooking area than a 22 inch kettle
- Less heat retention than ceramic in cold weather
- Thin lid, so no gasket seal

The four vent advantage
Two vents at each end, top and bottom, means you can run the fire at one end of the capsule and control it independently of the cooking end. That is a real two zone cooker rather than a round bowl with the coals shoved sideways, and the temperature difference between the two ends is larger and more stable than in a kettle.
The material argument
Aluminium conducts heat roughly three times faster than steel and does not corrode, which is why the design has survived since the 1950s and why coastal cooks favour it. The trade off is that it holds less heat than a ceramic kamado, so it recovers fast when you open the lid but loses temperature faster in cold weather.
