Aramid-fibre gloves let you pick up a hot grate, move a chimney, reposition coals or handle a whole pork shoulder directly. Tongs cannot do most of that. Check they are rated for the temperature and note that fabric gloves are for dry heat only: any liquid conducts straight through and scalds.
